Physiotherapy

What is a physiotherapist?
Paediatric Physiotherapists are health professionals who assess and support children with their strength and mobility so that they can confidently explore, navigate, and participate within their environment. Physiotherapists can also offer guidance on mobility and postural equipment, modify sports and activities to suit a child's specific needs, and orthopaedic conditions. They have an in-depth knowledge of the muscles, children's motor development, and the biomechanics of the body.

ID: Camille (she/her) sits on a green scooter board with her arms out, smiling with her eyes closed. She is wearing glasses, a 3/4 length black and white top, green pants and black boots. There are a variety of colourful obstacle course items (hoops, rubber hands and feet, cones, plastic balance beams) placed around her. Colourful play gym mats, a black crash mat, and gym cushion blocks can be seen in the background.
Lucy (SP, she/her) is pictured on the left and Monique (Physio, she/her) on the right. Lucy is holding up articulation visual resources and Monique is holding a netball, both are sitting around colourful soft play gym blocks and smiling at the camera
How can a physiotherapist help my child?
Our Physiotherapists can help babies and children with:
  • Build muscle strength, balance, coordination and flexibility, allowing your child to move with greater efficiency through their environment.
  • Achieving motor milestones like crawling, walking, or running.
  • Managing hypermobility, pain and muscle fatigue, joint and muscle function.
  • Recommending adaptive equipment and assistive devices to increase their independence, postural stability, and mobility.
  • Movement (e.g. walking, jumping, running, climbing or swimming).
  • Building confidence to play with their peers and on the playground.
